Objectives

The sector that interests me more specifically is:

Aerospace

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing to you to enquire about the possibility of a post of teacher or instructor in English. I teach general English as well as aeronautical English in the student pilots' classes at the “Ecole de l’air” (Salon de Provence French Air Force Academy), and I have just passed the French CAEA (Certificate allowing aeronautics teaching).

Due to several syllabi changes, the teachers and I were brought into question to meet various objectives. That has been a tough, but interesting challenge. We have always had to adapt the courses to the needs. I am used to orienting a syllabus according to the pupils' marks.

I used to attend many evening classes to learn English, Russian, German, Macedonian, Norwegian and even Chinese, and I have drawn my inspiration from all these teachers – there were nine of them – and that is why I have always got a singular view over teaching languages. I do think that I have thoroughly enriched my knowledge in this specific scope. Therefore, I have been used to working this way:

- I seldom let the pupils work / write in silence. They can do their homework at home. I first trust them, and I supply the keys for each exercise as well. As a result, we all save time to practice phonetics, speaking, and listening during the classes.

- As far as grammar is concerned, I start with the most difficult issues: verbs and tenses. Then I have more opportunities to correct the mistakes made by coming back to what we have already studied.

- Upon getting lexical knowledge, I try to introduce visual stimuli as often as possible.

- Listening comprehension should be like a hub when teaching languages for human beings have learnt their own language by mother’s mouth. Unfortunately, scholars sought for century to teach languages by reading and writing only. According to my humble experience, people do not always get the audio messages in the same processes. In the aftermath of the students' listening marks, I know how to orient the teaching of a group. It is sometimes necessary to split a class into two groups.

- For the students in major difficulty, I know how to organise some DVD/Video tapes/MP3 files works in small groups. Images and cues are developed and if necessary, repeated several times.

Lots of pupils – even the best ones – told me that they have learnt useful tips that they had not heard of before during their former education. My pragmatic approach of foreign languages derives from my operational experience abroad. Therefore I actually think that I am able to meet a private company demands.

Yours faithfully,

Experience

Since

TEACHER in ENGLISH and AERONAUTICS for student pilots

Since July 2001

Mission: I teach student pilots in general and aeronautical English at the Salon de Provence French Air Force Academy. Crash courses for 12- student classes. I teach through various skills, but I do insist over listening and phonetics skills. I have always had to make a huge flexibility and team effort due to different syllabi. I have had to monitor each pupil and examinee because of a wide range of student profiles. My experience as an ICAO English – Level 4 Examiner for Air Traffic Controllers has made me grow richer in pedagogy.

Means: 9 classrooms, PCs, 4 audio labs, VCRs, DVDs, MP3 files, projectors, and white boards.

Appraisal: My pupils have become very good at English due to their work but also to my methods. My way of teaching is not common in the state-owned schools, but it works:
9 in 10 pupils have passed TOEIC > 750 !
